Case IH 19700 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Minimum rail pressure failed
Issue description
Triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the actual fuel rail pressure has dropped below the minimum threshold necessary for effective fuel injection, preventing optimal engine operation and leading to rough idling, reduced power, poor acceleration, engine derate, or a complete no-start condition.

Check the cause
Visually inspect fuel lines, filter housings, and loose caps for external fuel leaks or restrictions.
Check for air in the fuel system, especially if the system was recently repaired or filters were changed.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors for damage or corrosion, particularly on the left side of the engine for chafing or a loose connector at the rail pressure sensor under the valve cover.
Verify the actual rail pressure against the ECM's expected values using a diagnostic scan tool.
Test the fuel rail pressure sensor for proper operation and signal integrity using a multimeter.
Conduct an injector bleed-back (return flow) test to check for excessive injector leakage, which bleeds off rail pressure.
Repair steps
Bleed the System
If the fault occurred after a filter change or running out of fuel, clear the codes, bleed the air from the fuel lines, and road test the machine.
Repair Leaks
If external leaks are found during the visual inspection, replace the affected fuel lines or tighten loose fittings.
Replace Filters
If no leaks are present, replace the fuel filter element and water separator, as plugged filters or fuel contamination will restrict supply to the high-pressure pump.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic tool shows erratic sensor voltage, repair the chafed wiring harness or replace the pigtail connector at the rail pressure sensor.
Replace Relief Valve / Sensor
If the rail pressure sensor is outputting out-of-range values, or if the mechanical pressure relief/limiter valve is stuck open, replace the faulty component.
Replace Injectors or Pump
If the return flow test indicates an injector is stuck open and leaking pressure back to the tank, replace the faulty injector(s). If all other components pass, the high-pressure fuel pump has suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.
