Case IH 19721 – DCU (Dosing Control Unit): EEPROM / Checksum failures | EEPROM write error / No corresponding variant number error | P062F Internal Control Module EEPROM Error
Issue description
The control module has detected an internal memory failure. The EEPROM has either failed a memory checksum test, failed to write data to the memory chip, or lost its programmed variant number.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Tier 4a
- Case IH Magnum Tractors: 235, 260, 290, 315, 340 (Series 4)
- Case IH Steiger Tractors: 350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600
- Case IH Axial-Flow Combines: 7230, 8230, 9230
- Tier 4B
Check the cause
Check system voltage: Inspect the battery, alternator output, and main ground straps connected to the DCU, as EEPROM write errors are frequently caused by low battery voltage, voltage spikes, or poor grounds during initialization or shutdown.
Check for related codes: Look for ignition switch plausibility errors (e.g., 19730) or main relay codes (e.g., 19739, 19742) which can interrupt the DCU's memory saving process.
Attempt a software flash: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and attempt to clear the code. If active, have a dealer technician attempt to re-flash the DCU software to recover the memory.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the main battery power to prevent electrical arcing.
Locate the DCU
Locate the Dosing Control Unit (DCU). It is typically mounted near the DEF/AdBlue tank and pump supply module.
Disconnect and inspect wiring harness
Carefully disconnect the main wiring harness connectors from the DCU. Check the harness pins for any signs of corrosion or water intrusion that may have shorted the module.
Remove faulty DCU
Unbolt the faulty DCU from its mounting bracket and remove it.
Install replacement DCU
Install the replacement DCU and secure the mounting bolts.
Reconnect harness and battery
Reconnect the wiring harness and restore battery power.
Program the new DCU
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to program the module, install the latest software, and configure the specific variant number for your exact machine. (Note: CNH requires software installation and passwords for this module).
