Check the cause
Check for Module Mismatches: Verify the DCU calibration power rating perfectly matches the Engine ECU, especially if either was recently replaced.
Inspect Wiring and Power Supply: Check the wiring harness and connectors at the DCU for water intrusion, corrosion, or loose pins, as voltage spikes or poor grounds can cause EEPROM corruption.
Attempt a Software Flash: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and attempt to re-flash or update the DCU software before condemning the hardware.
Repair steps
Turn off ignition and disconnect battery
Turn off the machine's ignition and disconnect the main battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate DCU
Locate the Dosing Control Unit (DCU) / DEF Pump Module assembly on the machine.
Clean area
Thoroughly clean the area around the module to prevent dirt from entering the DEF system.
Disconnect electrical connectors
Carefully disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the DCU.
Disconnect DEF fluid lines
If replacing the entire dosing pump assembly (which houses the DCU), disconnect the DEF fluid lines. Cap the lines immediately to prevent contamination.
Remove faulty DCU
Unbolt the mounting hardware and remove the faulty DCU.
Install replacement DCU
Install the replacement DCU and secure the mounting bolts.
Reconnect lines and connectors
Reconnect the DEF lines and electrical connectors, ensuring the locking tabs click into place.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Program/calibrate new DCU
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). The new DCU is blank and must be programmed/calibrated to the specific vehicle so it can communicate with the Engine ECU.
Clear codes and verify
Clear all inactive fault codes and run the engine under load to verify the SCR system is operating properly and the code does not return.
