Case IH 19733 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Maximum positive deviation of rail pressure exceeded concerning set value PCV.
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the actual fuel rail pressure is significantly higher than the target pressure (a positive deviation typically exceeding 15,000 kPa / 150 bar) for a set duration. As a result, the engine enters a derated limp mode to protect the fuel system from over-pressurization.

Check the cause
Check fuel quality and inspect for clogged fuel filters, choked strainers, or fuel gelling.
Verify the electric pre-supply pump is functioning correctly and delivering correct baseline pressure.
Inspect fuel return lines to the tank for blockages, kinks, or restrictions.
Inspect wiring harness and connectors for the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor and PCV for shorts, corrosion, or open circuits.
Perform an injector leak-off test to check for stuck open injectors or excessive return flow.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect your Case IH EST (Electronic Service Tool) or equivalent scanner. Monitor the 'Actual Fuel Rail Pressure' versus the 'Desired Fuel Rail Pressure' at idle and under load.
Service Fuel Filters
Replace the primary and secondary fuel filters. Clear the fault codes and test run the machine. If the code returns, proceed to the next step.
Test the Rail Pressure Sensor
With the engine off and ignition on, check the rail pressure sensor voltage. If it reads an artificially high pressure when the system is depressurized, the sensor is faulty and must be replaced.
Inspect the PCV / Metering Unit
If the sensor is accurate, the Pressure Control Valve (PCV) on the high-pressure pump is likely sticking closed or failing mechanically, preventing it from bleeding off excess pressure.
Replace Faulty Component
Replace the PCV/Fuel Metering Unit. Note that on some Bosch CP3/CP4 pumps, the metering unit can be replaced separately; on others, the entire high-pressure pump assembly must be replaced.
ECU Initialization
After replacing the PCV, Pressure Relief Valve, or High-Pressure Pump, you must use the diagnostic tool to perform an ECU initialization/reset so the ECM can learn the new valve's flow characteristics.
Clear and Verify
Clear the fault codes and road-test the machine under heavy load to ensure rail pressure tracks the setpoint accurately.
