Case IH 19761 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU: Value of the remaining SCR distance within the info range

Issue description

This is an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) Inducement code. It means the engine control system has detected a fault within the emissions system (such as low DEF level, poor DEF quality, or a hardware failure) and has started an inducement countdown. The 'info range' indicates that this is the first warning stage. It is a symptom/reaction code triggered by another active fault in the SCR system.

Check the cause

  1. Scan for Root-Cause Codes: Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check for other active SCR-related fault codes (e.g., NOx sensor faults, DEF dosing pump faults, DEF quality sensor faults)

  2. Check DEF/AdBlue Level: Ensure the DEF tank is adequately filled

  3. Test DEF Quality: Use a DEF refractometer to test the fluid in the tank. It must be exactly 32.5% urea concentration

  4. Inspect the DEF Dosing Injector: Remove the DEF injector from the exhaust pipe and inspect it for severe white crystallization (urea buildup) or physical blockage

  5. Check DEF Lines: Inspect the lines between the DEF pump and the injector for leaks, kinks, or blockages

Repair steps

  1. Address the Root Cause

    Repair or replace the component flagged by the primary fault code (e.g., replace a faulty NOx sensor, swap a clogged DEF filter, or replace a failed DEF supply pump).

  2. Address Fluid Issues

    If the DEF fluid is contaminated or degraded, drain the tank completely, flush it with distilled water, and refill with fresh, ISO-compliant DEF.

  3. Clean/Replace the DEF Injector

    If the DEF injector is clogged with crystallized urea, clean it using warm distilled water. If it has failed mechanically or electrically, replace it.

  4. Perform a Dosing System Test

    Using the CNH EST diagnostic software, run a DEF Dosing Quantity Test to verify the pump and injector are spraying the correct amount of fluid.

  5. Reset the Inducement Timer

    Once the physical repair is complete, you must use the CNH EST to perform an 'SCR Inducement Reset' or force a stationary DPF/SCR regeneration. This tells the ECM that the system is fixed, clearing the 19761 code and restoring full engine power.
