Case IH 19762 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Value of the remaining SCR distance within warning stage 1
Issue description
This is an SCR Inducement code indicating that the engine management system has detected a primary emissions fault (such as low DEF/AdBlue level, poor DEF quality, or a failure in the dosing system/NOx sensors) and has triggered the first stage of operator inducement. Warning Stage 1 serves as a countdown warning the operator that the machine will soon face severe engine torque derates or a starter lockout.

Check the cause
Scan for primary active fault codes (e.g., NOx sensor faults, DEF pressure faults, or dosing valve errors) using a diagnostic scanner, as 19762 is a secondary inducement code.
Verify that the DEF tank is full and use a refractometer to ensure the DEF fluid is at the correct 32.5% urea concentration.
Turn the key on without starting the engine and check the exhaust temperature sensors (inlet, outlet, and intake) via the cab display or Electronic Service Tool (EST). They should all read within a few degrees of ambient temperature.
Visually inspect the DEF dosing valve and mixing chamber for severe crystallization, blockages, or damaged wiring harnesses.
Repair steps
Repair the Root Cause
Address the primary fault identified during the diagnostic checks. This may involve draining and refilling contaminated DEF, replacing a faulty NOx sensor, replacing the DEF dosing valve, or repairing a shorted wiring harness.
Clear Primary Faults
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and clear the primary SCR/DEF diagnostic trouble codes.
Perform an Inducement Reset
Once the primary hardware issue is fixed, the 19762 code will not clear on its own. You must use the EST to initiate an 'Emissions Safe Harbor Reset' or 'SCR Inducement Reset.' This clears the inducement timers and restores full engine power.
System Validation
Run the machine under a heavy load or perform a forced stationary SCR test to raise the exhaust temperature above 450°F. Verify that the NOx sensors are reading correctly (e.g., dropping from 500 PPM to under 200 PPM) and that the system is dosing DEF properly without triggering new codes.
