Case IH 19780 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Customer Hard Inducement: Level 1 (Torque reduction), triggered by SCR system related fault
Issue description
This is a consequential (or secondary) fault code. It means the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected a critical primary fault—such as poor Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) / AdBlue® quality, a DEF dosing interruption, tampering, or a hardware failure. Because the primary fault was not resolved within the allowed warning period (or after a set number of engine restarts), the system enforces a 'Hard Inducement'. This inducement immediately reduces engine torque by 50% and limits the engine to idle to force the operator to service the machine and comply with emissions regulations.

Check the cause
Scan for Primary Fault Codes: Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to read all active codes. Look for the primary SCR fault (e.g., NOx sensor plausibility, DEF pump temperature, DEF quality/level) that triggered the 19780 inducement.
Test DEF/AdBlue Quality: Use a refractometer to verify the DEF is at the required 32.5% aqueous urea concentration and is free of contamination.
Inspect the DEF Dosing System: Check the DEF tank, dosing pump, injector, and lines for leaks, blockages, or urea crystallization.
Check Wiring and Sensors: Inspect the wiring harnesses for the upstream/downstream NOx sensors and the DEF dosing module for damage, corrosion, or short circuits.
Repair steps
Resolve the Root Cause
Repair or replace the failed component identified by the primary SCR fault code (e.g., replace a failed NOx sensor, swap a clogged DEF filter, or replace a faulty DEF dosing module).
Flush DEF System (If Applicable)
If the primary fault was caused by poor DEF quality, drain the DEF tank, flush the system, and refill with fresh, high-quality DEF.
Clear Primary Codes
Connect the Case IH EST diagnostic tool and clear the primary SCR fault codes.
Reset the Inducement / Restart Counter
You cannot clear code 19780 with a standard code-clear command. You must use the Case IH EST to perform an 'SCR System Validation Test' or explicitly 'reset the engine restart counter'.
Validation Run
Run the machine to ensure the validation completes successfully. The ECU will lift the 50% torque reduction and restore full engine power once the system verifies the SCR fault is resolved.
