Case IH 19782 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM) / Dosing Control Unit (DCU): SCR Inducement: Warning, triggered by Costumer Hard fault
Issue description
An emissions inducement (limp mode) code indicating that the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected a severe or prolonged emissions fault (such as an empty DEF tank, poor DEF quality, disconnected sensors, or system tampering), triggering a severe engine derate.
Applies to these machines
13 machines- Tier 4b
- Maxxum
- Puma
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Quadtrac
- Axial-Flow 5130
- Axial-Flow 6130
- Axial-Flow 7130
- Axial-Flow 8230
- Axial-Flow 9230
- N-Series TLBs
- heavy wheel loaders
Check the cause
Scan the ECM for primary active SCR/DEF fault codes (e.g., NOx sensor plausibility, DEF pump pressure, or DEF quality sensor faults) to identify the root cause
Check the DEF fluid level to ensure the tank is not empty
Test DEF quality using a refractometer; it must be exactly 32.5% urea (contaminated or watered-down DEF is a leading cause)
Inspect wiring harnesses and connectors for the DEF dosing unit, DEF quality sensor, and upstream/downstream NOx sensors for physical damage or corrosion
Repair steps
Repair the Root Cause
Fix whatever triggered the inducement. This may involve draining and refilling the DEF tank with fresh fluid, replacing a clogged DEF filter, or replacing a failed NOx sensor.
Perform a System Test
Once the physical repair is complete, note that the machine will not automatically exit limp mode because code 19782 is a latched code mandated by emissions regulations.
Execute an Inducement Reset
Connect a dealer-level diagnostic tool (such as the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), Jaltest, or Bosch ESI[truck]).
Run Reductant Fluid Quality Test
Run a successful 'Reductant Fluid Quality Test' or SCR system test via the diagnostic software.
Perform Inducement Mode Reset
Navigate to the engine control system menu and perform the 'Inducement Mode Reset' procedure to clear the latched 19782 code and restore full engine power.
