Case IH 19784 – DCU (Dosing Control Unit): Group error path UREA Tank empty _Error belonging to group UREA tank empty active _P203F Reagent -fluid level in tank -Too low
Issue description
The system has detected that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF / Urea) level in the tank has dropped below the minimum allowable threshold, or the DEF tank level sensor (sending unit) is falsely reporting an empty tank despite fluid being present.

Check the cause
Physically inspect the DEF tank to verify the actual fluid level. Do not rely solely on the cab gauge, as a stuck sensor will show empty even when full.
Check the DEF hoses, urea level strainer, and dosing pump filter for blockages or DEF crystallization.
Disconnect the DEF level sensor connector. Inspect the pins and terminals for oxidation, corrosion, or pin back-out. Ensure the connector locks properly.
Check for continuity between the DCU/ACM and the Urea level sensor connector.
Check the voltage at the Urea level sensor connector. Typical reference values: < 4.75 V = 100% Tank full, 2.0 – 3.0 V = 50% Tank full, > 0.3 V = Tank Empty.
Repair steps
Refill the Tank
If the tank is physically empty, fill it with certified, high-quality DEF. Cycle the key and use a diagnostic scan tool to see if the code clears.
Prepare for Sensor Replacement
If the tank is full, the wiring is intact, and the code remains active, the DEF sending unit (header) has failed internally (often due to DEF crystallization or sensor degradation) and must be replaced. Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground.
Drain the Tank
Drain the DEF tank into a clean container to prevent spillage.
Disconnect Lines
Disconnect the electrical connector and the DEF supply/return lines from the top of the DEF header unit.
Remove the Header
Unbolt the retaining ring or mounting bolts securing the DEF header to the tank and carefully pull the old assembly out.
Install the New Unit
Clean the mounting flange on the tank. Install the new DEF header unit, ensuring the O-ring/gasket is seated correctly to prevent leaks.
Reassemble
Reinstall the retaining ring/bolts, reconnect the fluid lines, and plug in the electrical connector.
Finalize
Refill the tank with DEF, reconnect the battery, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 19784 / P203F fault codes.
