Case IH 19785 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Customer Moderate Inducement: Level 3 (Creep mode), triggered by fault

Issue description

A software-enforced SCR Inducement code indicating the engine has been forced into a severe derate (Creep Mode) because a moderate emissions-related fault impacting NOx efficiency has been active for too long without being repaired.

Applies to these machines

  • Tier 4b
  • Tier 4 Final FPT diesel engines
  • Case N-series Tractor Loader Backhoes (TLBs)
  • Case IH agricultural tractors and loaders equipped with Tier 4 Final CEGR & DOC/SCR systems

Check the cause

  1. Scan for Root-Cause Codes using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to find the primary SCR/DEF fault (e.g., NOx sensor plausibility, DEF dosing valve blockages, EGR valve issues, or DEF tank temperature faults)

  2. Check DEF/AdBlue fluid level and verify it is not contaminated, degraded, or diluted

  3. Visually inspect SCR components, including wiring harnesses, connectors, and lines to the DEF dosing module, NOx sensors, and DEF supply pump for damage or corrosion

Repair steps

  1. Identify the Primary Fault

Use the diagnostic tool to find the specific component failure (e.g., failed NOx sensor, blocked DEF doser) that caused the moderate NOx efficiency drop.

  2. Repair the Root Cause

Replace the faulty sensor, unclog the DEF injector, repair damaged wiring, or drain and refill bad DEF fluid as dictated by the primary fault code.

  3. Clear Fault Codes

Use the diagnostic tool to clear the inactive codes from the ECU memory.

  4. Perform SCR System Validation / Reset

Use the diagnostic tool to perform an 'SCR System Validation Test' or a forced regeneration to prove to the ECU that the NOx efficiency is back within normal parameters, which will clear the Level 3 Inducement and restore full engine power.
