Case IH 19787 (F-5840-16) - ECU – ECU: SCR Inducement: Level 1 (Torque reduction), triggered by DEF/AdBlue dosing interruption fault.

Issue description

The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF/AdBlue) is no longer being injected (dosed) into the exhaust stream. Because the machine can no longer reduce NOx emissions to legal limits, the control system triggers a Level 1 Inducement, which automatically derates the engine (reduces engine torque) to force the operator to address the emissions failure. If ignored, this will eventually escalate to a Level 3 inducement (severe power loss/creep mode).

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the DEF tank is not empty and that the fluid is not contaminated with diesel, water, or debris.

  2. Inspect all DEF supply lines between the DEF tank, the dosing pump, and the doser injector for leaks, kinks, or heavy white crystallization (urea buildup).

  3. Check the wiring harnesses and electrical connections going to the DEF Dosing Pump and the DEF Doser Injector for corrosion, bent pins, or broken wires.

  4. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to run a DEF dosing override test to determine if the pump is failing to build pressure or if the injector nozzle is clogged.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize and drain DEF system

    Turn off the machine and wait for the ECU after-run cycle to complete so the system purges DEF back into the tank. Drain the DEF tank if contamination is suspected.

  2. Clear line blockages

    If the lines are clogged with crystallized urea, flush them with warm distilled water or replace the affected lines.

  3. Replace faulty dosing component

    If the Dosing Pump is faulty, disconnect the electrical harness and DEF lines, unbolt the module, and install the new unit. If the Doser Injector is faulty, remove the V-band clamp or mounting bolts, clean the mounting port of any crystallized DEF, and install the new injector.

  4. Program and calibrate ECU

    CRITICAL STEP: If the DEF Dosing Pump / Supply Module was replaced, the new module must be programmed and calibrated to the vehicle's ECU using the dealer diagnostic tool.

  5. Prime system and clear codes

    Refill the system with fresh, clean DEF. Use the diagnostic tool to prime the DEF system, clear the 19787 (F-5840-16) fault code, and perform a forced SCR system test to ensure the torque reduction inducement is lifted.
