Case IH 19788 (DTC F59F) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): SCR Inducement triggered by a DEF/AdBlue dosing interruption fault

Issue description

The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected a complete interruption in the delivery of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF/AdBlue). Because the emissions system cannot function without DEF, the machine's computer forces a severe power derate (creep mode) to compel the operator to fix the issue.

Check the cause

  1. Check DEF/AdBlue tank level to ensure it is not empty and inspect fluid quality for contamination (dirt, debris, or water).

  2. Visually inspect all DEF lines from the tank to the dosing pump, and from the pump to the injector, for physical damage, leaks, or severe crystallization.

  3. Remove the DEF injector from the exhaust stream and check for crystallization buildup around the nozzle restricting the spray.

  4. Inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors going to the DEF dosing pump and the DEF injector for chafing, corrosion, or disconnected pins.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve the Root Cause

    Based on the diagnostics, replace the clogged DEF injector, the failed DEF dosing pump, or the damaged DEF lines.

  2. Clean the Mounting Boss

    If replacing the DEF injector, thoroughly clean the mounting boss on the exhaust pipe to ensure a proper seal and prevent exhaust leaks.

  3. Install New Components

    Install the replacement parts and torque all fittings to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harnesses.

  4. Clear Codes and Reset Inducement

    Use a certified Case IH diagnostic tool (such as EST) to clear the inactive fault codes.

  5. System Test

    Run a forced SCR system test or a stationary regeneration to prime the DEF lines, verify that the dosing system is functioning correctly, and reset the ECU's inducement timer.
