19789 (F-5840-15) - ECU

Case IH 19789 (F-5840-15) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Dosing Control Unit (DCU): SCR Inducement: Warning, triggered by DEF/AdBlue dosing interruption fault

Issue description

This fault indicates that the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected an interruption in the delivery (dosing) of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) / AdBlue into the exhaust stream. If the interruption is not resolved, the system will escalate to Level 1 (Torque reduction) or Level 3 (Creep mode/Severe derate) to force compliance.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Magnum (180-380)
  • Maxxum (110-150)
  • Puma (130-240)
  • Steiger (350-600)
  • Optum
  • Farmall (40-50, 95A-115U)
  • 240 Series Combines (5130, 6130, 7130, 7230, 8230, 9230)
  • Patriot/Titan sprayers
  • Farmlift telehandlers

Check the cause

  1. Check the DEF tank vent hose for dirt plugging, which can cause a vacuum that interrupts dosing

  2. Verify the DEF tank is not empty and the fluid is not contaminated or degraded

  3. Check the DEF inline filter and the tank drop-in screen for crystallization or plugging

  4. Check the DEF tank heater control valve and coolant lines for incorrect routing or sticking, which can overheat the DEF tank

  5. Inspect the DEF dosing valve (injector) at the exhaust for physical blockages, severe crystallization, or electrical connector damage

  6. Verify if the DEF supply module (pump) is capable of building and holding pressure

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Blockages

If the vent hose is plugged, clean it and relocate it to a cleaner area of the machine. Replace the DEF inline filter and screen if they are restricted.

  2. Replace Faulty Components

If diagnostics point to a failed component, replace the DEF dosing valve (injector) or the DEF supply module (pump).

  3. Correct Heater Line Routing

If the DEF tank was overheating, ensure the heater line with the 'red' band is connected to the top tube running to the front part of the engine head (specifically noted for Fargo-built tractors) and replace the heater control valve if damaged.

  4. Perform Inducement Reset

Once the mechanical repair is complete, you must use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop software to perform an SCR Inducement Reset to clear the locked inducement and restore full engine power.
