Case IH 1979-09 - UCM – UCM: Rear pilot head #6 unexpected reset
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the electronic pilot head (the valve driver/actuator) controlling the #6 Rear Selective Control Valve (SCV / Remote Valve) has experienced an unexpected reboot or reset.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Steiger
- Puma
Check the cause
Cycle power and attempt to run an EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) valve calibration via the Pro 1200 display to rule out a temporary software glitch.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the #6 rear remote valve for rubbed wires, loose connector pins, or moisture/corrosion inside the plug.
Verify the pilot head is receiving a steady 12V power supply and has a clean ground.
Perform a swap test by exchanging the electronic pilot head from SCV #6 with a known good pilot head from an adjacent valve (e.g., SCV #5) to determine if the fault follows the pilot head or remains on the tractor's wiring/UCM.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and cycle the remote levers/buttons to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the SCV stack.
Disconnect Electronics
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the #6 SCV pilot head.
Remove the Pilot Head
Remove the mounting bolts securing the pilot head to the main hydraulic valve body. Carefully pull the pilot head away.
Prep the Surface
Clean the mating surface on the valve body. Inspect the spool for any binding or scoring.
Install the New Pilot Head
Install the replacement pilot head, ensuring that the O-rings/seals are properly seated to prevent oil seepage. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Reconnect & Calibrate
Plug the electrical connector back in. Start the tractor, warm up the hydraulic oil, and perform a mandatory SCV calibration through the cab display so the UCM can learn the new valve driver's neutral, extend, and retract limits.
Parts you might need
(1)SCV Pilot Head / EHR Valve Driver / Remote Valve Actuator
CNH has updated the part numbers for these pilot heads several times. You will need to provide your specific tractor's serial number to a Case IH dealer to get the latest superseded part number.
