19798 (F-5841-00) - ECU

Case IH 19798 (F-5841-00) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): SCR Inducement: Level 3 (creep mode), triggered by DEF/AdBlue Quality fault.

Issue description

The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF / AdBlue) in the tank is of poor quality, incorrect concentration, or contaminated. This triggers a Level 3 Inducement (creep mode) that drastically limits engine torque and speed. The system locks the inducement if there are 3 poor-quality detections within a 40-hour operating window.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow (7240, 8240, 9240)
  • Magnum series (250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
  • Puma series (150, 165, 185, 200, 220, 240)
  • Farmall series (110U, 115U)
  • Quadtrac/Steiger series (470, 500, 540, 580, 620)
  • Patriot series (3230, 3330, 4430)
  • STM N Series Loaders

Check the cause

  1. Fluid Quality Test: Use a DEF refractometer to test the concentration of the fluid in the tank. It must be exactly 32.5% urea.

  2. Contamination Inspection: Check the DEF tank for signs of dirt, water, or diesel fuel contamination (which can cause chemical reactions that damage the sending unit).

  3. Sensor Verification: Inspect the DEF/AdBlue Quality Sensor and its wiring harness for physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

  4. Lockout Check: Determine if the machine has hit the 3-detection/40-hour limit, which will require a dealer tool to unlock even after the fluid is fixed.

Repair steps

  1. Drain the Tank

    Completely drain the DEF/AdBlue tank.

  2. Clean the System

Clean and flush the tank to remove any crystallized urea, debris, or contaminated fluid.

  3. Replace Filters

If equipped, replace the DEF tank filter (e.g., the 100-micron fill filter).

  4. Refill

Refill the tank with fresh, approved, high-quality DEF/AdBlue.

  5. Replace Sensor

If the fault remains active after flushing and refilling, the DEF Quality Sensor/Sender Unit has likely been permanently damaged by the contamination and must be replaced.

  6. Reset the ECU Counter

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), navigate to the dealer service tool screen, and execute the 'Engine Restart Counter Reset' to restore full engine power and clear the Level 3 creep mode.
