Case IH 19801 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Dosing Control Unit (DCU): SCR Inducement: Level 3 (creep mode), triggered by Tampering fault

Issue description

The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected a condition that the logic classifies as 'tampering', activating a Level 3 Inducement (creep mode) that severely restricts engine power and limits vehicle speed.

Applies to these machines

  • Tier 4b
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • Farmall series (40, 45, 50, 115U, 120C)
  • Magnum series (225, 235, 260, 290, 315, 340)
  • Case N-Series Tractor Loader Backhoes (TLBs)

Check the cause

  1. Scan for primary codes using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the ECM and DCU for codes related to blocked DEF dosing valves (e.g., 19817), NOx sensor plausibility, or EGT sensor voltage issues.

  2. Inspect the SCR wiring harness, NOx sensors, and DEF dosing unit for physical damage, unplugged connectors, or melted wires.

  3. Verify that no aftermarket CAN-bus emulators or 'delete' devices have been spliced into the SCR system.

  4. Ensure the DEF/AdBlue tank is full of high-quality, uncontaminated fluid, as repeated low-level or poor-quality DEF warnings can trigger tampering logic.

Repair steps

  1. Identify and Repair the Root Cause

Diagnose and repair the primary fault found during diagnostic checks (e.g., replacing a faulty NOx sensor, cleaning a blocked DEF injector, or repairing a broken wiring harness).

  2. Connect Diagnostic Software

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the machine's diagnostic port.

  3. Reset SCR Data

Depending on the primary repair, use the EST to reset the SCR catalyst memory and sensor data.

  4. Perform Inducement Validation Restart

Use the EST to activate the 'Service Inducement Validation Restart' mode. This initiates a full power restart sequence that allows the ECM to validate that the tampering fault has been physically repaired.

  5. Clear Codes

Once the validation restart is successful and the ECM verifies the SCR system is functioning normally, clear the historical fault codes.
