19801 (DTC FE9F) - ECU

Case IH 19801 (DTC FE9F) - ECU – Engine ECU: SCR Inducement: Level 3 (creep mode), triggered by Tampering fault

Issue description

This is an informational/inducement code indicating that the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions system has detected a critical 'tampering' condition (such as a blocked DEF dosing valve, disconnected emissions sensor, blocked EGR valve, or contaminated DEF fluid). The system has activated a Level 3 inducement, which severely derates the engine power and limits the machine to 'creep mode' (low idle speed) to prevent operation until the emissions system is restored.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow® Combines
  • Farmall Tractors
  • MX/TG Series Tractors

Check the cause

  1. Read all active fault codes in the Engine ECU.

  2. Identify the 'Tampering' fault: Look for the accompanying technical fault code that triggered the inducement (e.g., DTC 19817 (377A) for blocked DEF dosing valve, DTC 19141 for diesel fuel in DEF tank, EGR valve blocked, or reagent dosing interruption).

  3. Inspect the identified component: Check wiring, connectors, and physical condition of the component flagged by the root cause code.

Repair steps

  1. Repair the Root Cause

Address the specific tampering fault identified during the diagnostic checks (e.g., replace the blocked DEF dosing valve, clean the EGR valve, or drain and flush contaminated DEF fluid).

  2. Clear Codes

Once the physical repair is complete, clear the inactive fault codes.

  3. Perform Inducement Validation Restart

Perform a 'Validation Restart' (a full power restart for inducement validation) or a software reset via the diagnostic tool to clear the inducement logic.

  4. Emergency Re-start

If the machine is stranded, an emergency restart can be performed after the engine has been commanded to low idle. This allows 30 seconds of operation without power loss to move the machine before it automatically reduces to low idle again.
