19809 (DTC F9BF) - ECU

Case IH 19809 (DTC F9BF) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Diagnosis validation is active / Inducement Validation Restart mode activated

Issue description

This is an informational status code generated by the emissions system, not a hardware failure. It indicates that the machine was previously placed into an SCR Inducement state due to a critical emissions fault. The system has entered a Validation Restart mode, temporarily restoring full engine power while actively running diagnostic checks to verify that the SCR/DEF system is now functioning correctly and the repair was successful.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH Farmall series
  • Case IH Puma series
  • Case N-Series Loader Backhoes
  • CNH machines utilizing MTA CCM & APH Stage V MR architecture

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and check the ECU failure memory for other active or recently inactive fault codes.

  2. Identify the original inducement trigger code that caused the engine derate (e.g., 19817 for blocked DEF dosing valve, 19790 for low DEF level, or 19797 for DEF quality faults).

  3. Ensure the DEF/AdBlue tank is full and contains uncontaminated fluid.

Repair steps

  1. Read All Codes

Connect the diagnostic tool and pull all codes from the Engine ECU.

  2. Ignore 19809 Temporarily

Do not attempt to replace parts for code 19809/F9BF, as no intervention is necessary for this specific code.

  3. Repair the Root Cause

Address the primary SCR fault that triggered the inducement (e.g., clean or replace a blocked dosing valve, or refill an empty DEF tank).

  4. Perform a Validation Drive Cycle

Once the root cause is repaired, operate the machine under normal working load and temperature conditions.

  5. Allow the ECU to Validate

The ECU will use the Validation Restart mode to monitor the SCR system. Once the ECU confirms the emissions system is operating within legal parameters, the inducement will be permanently lifted, and code 19809 will automatically clear from the active code list.
