Case IH 19824 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Intake manifold temperature is too low
Issue description
This code indicates that the temperature reading from the Intake Manifold Temperature (IMT) sensor has dropped below the expected operational threshold. When this fault is active, the system may substitute a default temperature value (e.g., 85.93 °F / 29.96 °C) and the engine may enter a derated power state to protect itself.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Tier 4b
- Case IH tractors (Farmall, Quantum, Magnum series)
- Case N Series Loaders
- Harvesters
- Equipment powered by FPT Tier 4 Final / Stage IV engines (F5HFL463D, F5BFL, F5DFL)
Check the cause
Inspect the intake manifold temperature sensor, its electrical connector, and the wiring harness for corrosion, loose pins, or physical damage.
Verify the signal voltage at the sensor (typical 5V reference supplied by the ECU). Check for an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to positive.
Use a diagnostic tool (e.g., CNH EASy, TEXA, Cojali) to read live data for the intake manifold temperature. Compare it to ambient temperature when the engine is cold; an implausible reading indicates a faulty sensor.
Ensure there are no blockages or extreme efficiency issues with the charge air cooler that could cause abnormally low intake temperatures.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the intake manifold temperature sensor on the intake manifold or charge air cooler piping on the engine. (On some models, you may need to remove fan shields or harness/hose retainers on the side of the engine for access).
Removal
Disconnect the electrical plug from the sensor. Unthread and remove the faulty sensor from the manifold.
Installation
Thread the new OEM sensor into the manifold and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical plug and re-secure any shields or harness retainers that were removed. Reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes and Reset
Connect your diagnostic tool to clear the 19824 fault code. Note: Because FPT engine temperature faults can cause an emissions/torque derate (inducement), you may need to perform an "Inducement Unlock" or "Counter Reset" via the diagnostic tool to restore full engine power.
