Case IH 19863 – HCU: PRC high for DEF/AdBlue Backflow Line Heater (via HCU)

The voltage or resistance measured on the DEF backflow line heater circuit is above the acceptable physical range, indicating an open circuit such as a broken wire, a disconnected or corroded electrical plug, or a burnt-out heating element inside the DEF return line.

   Inspect the DEF backflow line wiring harness and electrical connector for chafed wires, disconnected plugs, or green/white corrosion inside the pins

   Check the main DEF line heater relays and fuses for a blown fuse or stuck relay

   Disconnect the backflow line heater connector and measure resistance across the heater element pins (should be under 10-15 ohms; 'OL' indicates a burnt-out element)

   Check the continuity of the wiring harness from the heater connector back to the HCU/ECU to ensure there is no break in the chassis wiring

   Preparation

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery. Allow the exhaust and DEF system to cool completely.

   Access the Lines

   Locate the DEF tank and the DEF supply module (pump). Identify the specific backflow (return) line.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the electrical connector for the backflow line heater.

   Disconnect Fluid Fittings

   Depress the release tabs on the quick-connect fluid fittings at both the DEF pump and the DEF tank. Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of DEF will spill.

   Remove the Old Line

   Carefully unclip the backflow line from its routing brackets. Note the exact routing path to ensure the new line doesn't rub against sharp edges or hot exhaust components.

   Install the New Line

   Route the new heated DEF backflow line exactly as the old one was routed.

   Reconnect

   Click the fluid fittings securely into place at the tank and pump. Reconnect the electrical plug for the heater.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear fault code 19863. Run a manual DEF system heater test or pressurization test via the EST to verify the circuit is closed and there are no fluid leaks.
