Case IH 19864 – HCU (Heater Control Unit) or DCU (Dosing Control Unit): PRC low for DEF/AdBlue Backflow Line Heater (via HCU)

The control unit is reading a value (typically current draw) that is below the minimum expected threshold, indicating an open circuit in the DEF backflow line heater. This is almost always caused by a burned-out heating element inside the DEF line, a broken wire in the harness, or a disconnected/corroded electrical plug.

   Visually inspect the DEF backflow line, electrical connector, and wiring harness for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Perform a resistance test (Ohms) across the pins on the line side of the disconnected plug; an open circuit (O.L. or infinite resistance) indicates a failed heating element inside the line.

   Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to command the DEF heaters on and check for supply voltage at the machine-side harness connector to ensure the HCU is sending power.

   Check for related power stage error codes (such as 19862, 19865, or 19866) that could indicate a short circuit or failed HCU module rather than a failed line.

   Prep the Machine

   Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Line

   Identify the DEF backflow line. Do not confuse it with the DEF suction or pressure lines.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the electrical connector for the backflow line heater from the main wiring harness.

   Disconnect Fluid Fittings

   Depress the release tabs on the quick-connect fluid fittings at both ends of the backflow line (at the supply module and at the tank). Have a rag ready and clean any spilled DEF immediately with warm water, as it is highly corrosive.

   Remove the Line

   Unclip the faulty heated line from its routing brackets and remove it from the machine.

   Install the New Line

   Route the new OEM heated DEF line into the exact same position. Secure it in the retaining clips so it does not chafe against moving parts.

   Reconnect Fittings

   Push the fluid fittings onto their ports until they audibly 'click' and lock into place. Give them a gentle tug to ensure they are seated.

   Reconnect Electricals

   Plug the heater connector back into the machine's harness.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect the battery. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), clear the 19864 fault code, and run a system test to verify the heater is drawing the correct amperage and the fault does not return.
