Case IH 19889 (F-1624-19) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / SCR Emissions System: Vehicle speed CAN message not received

FMI 19 indicates a 'Received network error'. This means the control module expecting to see the vehicle's ground speed broadcasted over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus is not receiving the data packets. This can trigger the 'Stop engine light Warning/Fault light' and may result in an engine power loss or SCR failure warning.

   Emergency Movement: If the combine experiences full power loss due to this code, the system allows an 'Emergency Re-start' providing 30 seconds of operation without power loss to safely move the machine.

   CAN Bus Network Test: Check the CAN bus communication lines between the transmission/chassis controller and the Engine ECU.

   Wiring Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness for the speed sensors and CAN lines, looking for conditions matching FMI 14 (Line disconnected) or FMI 15-18 (Short circuit / Data Invalid).

   Sensor Verification: Verify that the physical speed sensors on the transmission and gearboxes are intact, plugged in, and not covered in metallic debris.

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic port to verify if the vehicle speed sensor is reading locally at the transmission controller.

   Verify local speed sensor reading.

   If the transmission controller reads the speed but the Engine ECU does not, the fault lies in the CAN bus wiring. Trace the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the modules, repairing any chafed wires, corroded pins, or loose connectors.

   Trace and repair CAN High and CAN Low wires.

   If the transmission controller is also not reading vehicle speed, the physical speed sensor has failed.

   Determine if physical speed sensor has failed.

   Locate the faulty speed sensor on the gearbox/drivetrain.

   Locate faulty sensor.

   Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector and remove the retaining bolt.

   Disconnect and unbolt sensor.

   Remove the old sensor, clean the mounting port, and install the new OEM sensor.

   Install new OEM sensor.

   Clear the fault codes using the EST or by cycling the battery disconnect, and test drive the combine to ensure the CAN network is successfully broadcasting the speed message.
