Case IH 19909 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Error in comparing energizing time to maximum value for injector in cylinder 2 (or 4)
Issue description
This code is triggered by the engine's Zero Fuel Calibration (ZFL) algorithm. If the required energizing time to achieve the expected crankshaft acceleration deviates so much that it exceeds the maximum allowed limit programmed into the software, the system determines that the injector has drifted out of specification (excessive mechanical wear) and logs this fault.

Check the cause
Verify ISA Programming: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and verify that the correct ISA (Injector Quantity Adjustment) calibration code is programmed into the ECM for the affected cylinder.
Check for Electrical Faults: Check for any active codes related to ECU power stages, battery voltage, or injector circuit errors (open/short circuits) to rule out a wiring harness issue.
Monitor Injector Balance: Use the EST to perform a cylinder contribution test or monitor injector balance rates to physically confirm the mechanical drift of the specific injector.
Repair steps
Preparation
Disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Thoroughly clean the area around the affected fuel injector on the cylinder head to prevent dirt from entering the open fuel system.
Removal
Remove the high-pressure fuel line connected to the affected injector. Remove the injector leak-off (return) line. Immediately cap all open fuel rail and injector ports.
Extract Injector
Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt and carefully extract the drifted fuel injector from the cylinder head.
Installation
Install the new fuel injector. You must use a new copper sealing washer and new O-rings.
Reassembly
Reinstall the hold-down clamp, leak-off line, and high-pressure fuel line. Torque all fittings and bolts to the specific engine's OEM specifications.
Bleed System
Reconnect the battery and prime/bleed the fuel system as required by the specific engine model.
ECM Programming
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). You must program the new injector's specific ISA/calibration code into the ECM.
Reset ZFL Parameters
Using the EST, navigate to the engine controller and execute the procedure to 'Restore Self Learning Parameters' or 'Reload Engine Dataset.' This resets the Zero Fuel Calibration data so the ECM stops applying the old, maxed-out compensation values to the new injector.
Validation
Start the engine, check for fuel leaks, and allow the tractor to idle so the ECM can begin learning the new injector's baseline parameters. Clear the inactive fault codes.
