Case IH 1991-07 - UCM – UCM: Aux Valve 7 Port Flow Command - Mechanical System Not Responding or Out of Adjustment

Issue description

The tractor's computer is commanding the #7 rear auxiliary spool valve to move to allow hydraulic flow, but the valve is physically failing to move to the commanded position, indicating that the spool valve inside the rear pilot head is mechanically stuck, bound up, or seized, often due to debris or contamination in the hydraulic fluid.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • Puma

Check the cause

  1. Check the condition of the hydraulic fluid, filters, and cold oil bypass strainers for rust, dirt, or contamination.

  2. Perform a manual actuation test by gently prying or tapping the #7 spool valve to see if it is physically seized in the bore.

  3. Verify the solenoid is receiving proper voltage and the wiring harness to the #7 remote is intact to rule out a weak magnetic pull.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Shut off the tractor and actuate the hydraulic levers to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.

  2. Access the Valve

Remove the access cover over the rear auxiliary valve stack to expose the spool valves. Locate the #7 valve section.

  3. Clean the Spool

Use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) and brake cleaner to clean out the hole and the top of the spool valve.

  4. Free the Valve

Gently work the valve up and down to free it. CRITICAL: Do not use any abrasives (like sandpaper or emery cloth) on either the spool or the spool bore, as this will ruin the tight machining tolerances.

  5. Reassembly

Once the spool valve is moving freely, reinstall the return spring and plug.

  6. Flush System

If contamination was the root cause, drain the hydraulic fluid, replace all hydraulic filters, and refill with clean OEM-spec hydraulic fluid to prevent the other pilot heads from sticking.

  7. Replace if Scored

If the spool valve is heavily scored or cannot be freed, the specific auxiliary valve section must be replaced.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Auxiliary Spool Valve / EHR Valve Section

Generic part name for the #7 remote slice

  • Hydraulic Oil Filters

Case IH OEM filters, exact part number varies by chassis

  • Cold Oil Relief Cartridges / Bypass Valves

If the originals failed and allowed contamination

  • O-ring Seal Kits

    For the valve stack reassembly
