Case IH 1991-11 - UCM – UCM: Rear pilot head #7 - spool not in neutral at power-on

The system detects that a hydraulic valve spool is not resting in its center (neutral) position when the tractor is keyed on. This is a critical safety interlock designed to prevent unintended hydraulic movement or implement actuation when the machine starts.

   Verify if the valve spool is physically stuck (mechanical internal fault)

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the UCM to the EHR valve spool adapter for shorts, under-voltage, or over-voltage conditions

   Run a self-diagnostic check (checksum or flash test) to rule out an EEPROM or configuration error in the controller

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remotes.

   Inspect the Pilot Head/Actuator

   Locate the affected rear remote valve (Remote #7, if equipped on a high-spool-count machine like a Steiger). Remove the pilot head/actuator from the valve body.

   Check Spool Movement

   Manually actuate the spool to ensure it moves freely and springs back to the neutral position. If it binds, the valve body may need to be cleaned, rebuilt, or replaced due to internal mechanical failure.

   Inspect Connections

   Disconnect and inspect the 'Spool Adapter - EHR Valves' harness. Clean the pins and ensure a tight connection to the UCM.

   Recalibrate

   After reassembly or parts replacement, use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's H-Menu to recalibrate the EHR valves so the UCM learns the new neutral setpoint.
