Case IH 2 – Performance Monitor Controller: Poor or no signal from tractor performance monitor radar

The control system is not receiving a valid true ground speed signal from the radar sensor. When this signal is lost or erratic, the tractor cannot accurately calculate slip, and on some powershift models, it may prevent the transmission from shifting properly between certain ranges (e.g., 6-7 or 12-13) without using the clutch pedal.

   Monitor Slip Screen: Check the slip screen on the Performance Monitor. If the tractor is equipped with radar and the sensor is failing, the slip screen readings will be erratic or blank.

   EST Laptop Data Logging: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop. Click the 'monitor' icon and add 'TRANS LOCAL ENGINE SPEED' and 'TRANS TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED' to your parameters. Operate the tractor at different ground and engine speeds to look for erratic or missing readings.

   Wiring and Connector Inspection: Inspect the radar sensor extension cables and connectors. Look for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Voltage Check: Verify that the radar sensor is receiving proper reference voltage (typically +5 VDC or +12 VDC depending on the specific system) and has a solid ground at the connector.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the radar ground speed sensor, which is typically mounted on a bracket under the cab or chassis, facing the ground at an angle.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the radar sensor. Inspect the terminals for moisture or corrosion.

   Test the Harness

   If the connector is clean, test the wiring harness for continuity from the sensor connector back to the Performance Monitor Controller to rule out a broken wire.

   Remove the Sensor

   If the wiring and voltage supply are good but the signal is still poor/missing, the sensor has failed internally. Unbolt the radar sensor and its guard from the mounting bracket.

   Install the New Sensor

   Mount the replacement radar sensor to the bracket using the existing hardware (bolts, nuts, washers). Ensure it is angled correctly according to the factory bracket orientation.

   Reconnect and Secure

   Reconnect the wiring harness and secure any slack with cable ties to prevent snagging on crop debris.

7. 7

   Test and Clear

   Operate the tractor to verify that the ground speed and slip readings on the Performance Monitor are now accurate. Clear the fault code using the EST laptop or the monitor's H-Menu.
