Case IH 2003 – Transmission Controller (TRANS) or general chassis/tractor controller: Clutch pedal required

Indicates the system requires the operator to depress the clutch pedal to satisfy a safety interlock, complete a shift, or engage a gear, or the clutch pedal position sensor (potentiometer) or bottom-of-clutch (BOC) switch is failing, misadjusted, or has lost its calibration data.

   Verify Operator Action: Ensure the clutch pedal is actually being fully depressed when shifting or changing directions.

   Check Sensor Voltage: Locate the clutch pedal potentiometer. Back-probe the wiring harness to ensure it is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V to 8V depending on the model). The signal voltage should change smoothly without dropping out as the pedal is depressed.

   Inspect the Bottom-of-Clutch (BOC) Switch: Check if the physical switch at the bottom of the pedal travel is misadjusted, stuck open, or shorted.

   Check Wiring Harness: Inspect the chassis harness connecting the clutch pedal sensors to the transmission controller for chafing, disconnects, or corrosion.

   Attempt Calibration: Sometimes the controller simply loses the clutch pedal calibration data. Attempt to recalibrate the clutch pedal using the tractor's H-Menu/display or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). If the calibration fails or the display does not register the pedal movement, the potentiometer is likely faulty.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Sensor

   Access the base of the clutch pedal linkage inside the cab or under the floor tin.

   Remove the Old Sensor

   Unplug the electrical connector from the potentiometer or safety switch. Remove the mounting hardware (this may involve removing a circlip, washer, and spring, or unbolting the sensor bracket) and slide the sensor off the shaft.

   Install the New Sensor

   Slide the new potentiometer or switch onto the linkage shaft and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor.

   Calibrate the New Sensor

   Reconnect the battery. You must perform a clutch pedal calibration procedure via the tractor's electronic service menu so the transmission controller can learn the new minimum and maximum voltage values for the pedal travel.
