Case IH 2005 (518277.02) - DEC – Transmission Controller: Creeper engage fault
Issue description
The transmission controller has commanded the creeper gear to engage, but the system failed to execute or verify the engagement. This is typically caused by an electrical failure in the creeper switch, a wiring harness issue, or a faulty creeper solenoid valve on the Transmission Control Valve (TCV).

Check the cause
Check the Cab Switch: Verify that the creeper on/off switch in the cab (and its physical linkage) is operating correctly and sending power down to the solenoid.
Inspect the Wiring Harness: The creeper solenoid hangs down under the TCV valve body and is somewhat unprotected. Inspect the wiring for breaks, shorts, or damage caused by field debris.
Ohm Test the Solenoid: Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the creeper solenoid at the TCV to determine if it has an internal short or open circuit.
Check for Calibration Codes: Access the 'HH Menu' on-board diagnostics (using the ADIC dot matrix display or diagnostic tool 380000843) to check for related calibration errors, such as U68 (Creeper not engaged).
Mechanical Tap Test: If the solenoid is receiving proper voltage but not redirecting oil, it may be mechanically stuck. Tap the solenoid lightly with a hammer to see if it temporarily frees up, which confirms the solenoid is the culprit.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and shut off the engine.
Locate the creeper solenoid valve on the Transmission Control Valve (TCV) block.
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the solenoid.
Clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Unbolt and remove the faulty creeper solenoid valve from the TCV body.
Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid will leak out.
Lubricate the O-rings/gaskets on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid.
Install the new creeper solenoid valve and torque to OEM specifications.
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Turn the key to the ON position and use the HH Menu or a diagnostic tool to clear the stored 2005 fault code.
Start the tractor, place the transmission control lever in neutral or park, and move the creeper switch to the ON position to verify smooth engagement without the fault returning.
