Case IH 2009 - UCM – UCM: Seat switch input - voltage too low
Issue description
This code indicates that the control module is receiving a voltage signal from the operator presence seat switch that has fallen below the minimum acceptable threshold. Technically, this usually points to an open circuit, a disconnected harness, a failed switch mechanism, or a short to ground in the seat switch circuit.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma series (125, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
- Magnum series (215 through 335)
- MX series (MX210 through MX305)
- Steiger series (280 through 485)
- Maxxum series
- Axial-Flow series (5088, 6088, 7088, 7120, 7230, 8120, 9120, 9230)
- Patriot Sprayers (2250, 3240, 3340, 4440)
- Titan Floaters
Check the cause
Visually inspect the seat switch electrical connector under the seat to ensure it is securely plugged in and not physically damaged.
Inspect the wiring harness running from the seat switch to the UCM for chafing, pinched wires, breaks, or a short to ground.
Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for continuity. The switch should clearly change states (open/closed) when weight is applied to the seat cushion and when the seat is empty.
Check the UCM supply voltage at the connector to ensure the module is outputting the correct reference voltage to the switch circuit.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the key start switch and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Switch
Locate the operator presence switch, which is typically mounted under the seat cushion or integrated into the air/mechanical suspension assembly.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical harness from the seat switch. Unbolt or unclip the faulty switch from the seat frame.
Installation
Install the new OEM seat switch and secure it to the frame. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Restore Power
Reconnect the battery and turn the key switch ON.
Clear Codes
Clear the stored error codes from the UCM. On Case IH tractors with the Advanced Display/Instrument Cluster, this is done via the "H Menu". Navigate to the HC menu to erase all stored error codes without erasing your transmission/steering calibration information. (Note: Avoid the H8 menu unless you intend to clear all calibration values and reset the EEPROM back to factory defaults).
Verify
Sit in the seat to trigger the operator presence system, start the machine, and verify that the fault code 2009 does not return.
