Case IH 2013 – Transmission Controller: Upshift and downshift buttons pressed at same time.

The controller is receiving simultaneous closed-circuit signals from both the upshift and downshift switches. Because a transmission cannot shift up and down simultaneously, this is recognized as an invalid state or logic error. This underlying condition is typically caused by a physically stuck button on the multi-function handle/shuttle lever, an internal short circuit within the switch assembly, or a short in the wiring harness.

   Visual & Physical Inspection: Inspect the upshift and downshift buttons on the multi-function handle (MFH) or shuttle lever. Check if either button is physically jammed, sticking due to dirt/debris, or mechanically broken.

   Continuity Test: Disconnect the switch assembly from the harness. Use a multimeter to test the switch for internal shorts. Verify if the switch is showing both circuits closed without being pressed.

   Harness Check: If the switch tests fine, inspect the wiring harness between the multi-function handle and the transmission controller. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation causing a short to ground or a short between the two signal wires.

   Power down the tractor, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the battery.

   Power down the tractor, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Remove retaining screws and trim panels.

   Carefully remove the retaining screws and plastic trim panels on the multi-function handle or armrest console to access the internal switch wiring.

   Disconnect the electrical connector.

   Disconnect the electrical connector linking the upshift/downshift switch assembly to the main armrest harness.

   Remove retaining hardware.

   Remove the retaining hardware (screws or clips) holding the faulty switch assembly or the entire grip in place.

   Install new switch assembly or grip.

   Install the new switch assembly or replacement multi-function handle grip.

   Reconnect the electrical connector.

   Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the wiring is routed correctly so it will not be pinched when the handle casing is reassembled.

   Reinstall handle covers and trim panels.

   Reinstall the handle covers and trim panels.

   Reconnect battery and turn ignition ON.

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition key to the ON position.

   Clear the stored fault code 2013.

   Clear the stored fault code 2013 using the tractor's diagnostic display menu or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

    Test upshift and downshift functions.

    Test the upshift and downshift functions to ensure proper operation. If the transmission was previously uncalibrated due to this code, proceed with the transmission clutch calibration process.
