Case IH 2015 – Transmission Controller: High and low range switches both closed

The transmission controller is simultaneously receiving a "closed" signal from both the High range and Low range switches. Because a tractor cannot be in both high and low range at the same time, the controller logs this error and will typically disable shifting or default to neutral to prevent transmission damage.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the gear selector/shuttle lever to the transmission controller for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation that could cause a short to ground or a short to a high voltage source.

   Test switch continuity using a multimeter to verify if the switch assembly has failed internally (showing a closed circuit for both High and Low circuits simultaneously without buttons being pressed).

   Check for sticking buttons or a jammed shuttle lever caused by dirt or debris physically depressing both contacts.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Access the Switch

   Depending on your model, the switch may be located on the steering column (shuttle lever) or the right-hand console. Remove the steering wheel (if necessary) and the plastic steering column cowlings or console covers to expose the gear selector assembly.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Carefully unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the base of the gear selector switch.

   Remove the Faulty Switch

   Unbolt the mounting hardware holding the gear selector assembly or range switch in place and remove the old unit.

   Install the New Switch

   Mount the new OEM gear selector switch and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnect and Reassemble

   Plug the wiring harness back into the new switch. Reinstall the steering column covers, console panels, and the steering wheel.

   Test and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Clear the stored fault codes from the transmission controller. Start the tractor and test the High/Low range shifting to ensure the code does not return and the transmission engages properly. (Note: Some models may require a quickfill calibration of the clutches after transmission electrical repairs).
