Case IH 2024 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU / TRANS): None of the transmission clutches are calibrated.
Issue description
This is not necessarily a hardware failure; it is the standard, expected condition when a new, unprogrammed transmission controller is installed on the tractor, or if the controller's memory has been wiped. The system is alerting the operator that the transmission control module does not have the required clutch fill and hold levels saved in its memory to operate the transmission.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Maxxum
- Farmall
- Steiger T4B
- Magnum
- Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- Case IH MX Magnum Series (e.g., MX180, MX200, MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
- Case IH TG Series
Check the cause
Verify Controller Status: Confirm if the transmission controller was recently replaced or flashed. If so, this code is normal and simply requires calibration.
Check for Accompanying Codes: Ensure there are no active codes for the wheel speed sensor (e.g., Code 77), Bottom of Clutch (BOC) switch (e.g., Code 37, 48), or clutch pedal misadjustment (e.g., Code 47). These will prevent a successful calibration.
Fluid Temperature Check: The transmission fluid must be warmed up to operating temperature. Calibration requires the hydraulic fluid to be between 60°C and 105°C (140°F - 221°F) for optimum results.
Safety Check: Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat, open surface free of obstacles, as the machine may move automatically during the calibration process.
Repair steps
Prepare the machine
Park the machine on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and ensure the area is clear.
Warm transmission oil
Warm the transmission oil temperature to at least 60°C (140°F).
Access CONFIG MENU
Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the "Enter" key on the keypad to bring up the CONFIG MENU.
Select TCU
Use the down arrow key to highlight "TCU" (Transmission Control Unit) in the menu list and press Enter.
Access ETC MENU
Scroll down to the "ETC MENU" screen and press Enter to access the transmission sub-menus (the TRANS VIEW screen will display).
Access TRANS SETUP
Scroll down until the "TRANS SETUP" screen displays and press Enter.
Begin clutch calibration
The "Cltch Cal" (clutch calibration) screen will display. Press Enter to begin the calibration screens.
Verify oil temperature
The screen will display the current transmission oil temperature. If it is within the 60 - 105°C range, press Enter to proceed.
Run automated calibration
Follow the on-screen prompts to run the automated calibration. The controller will automatically adjust and save the clutch fill and hold levels.
Complete calibration
If an error occurs during the process, the calibration will abort and display a status message that must be corrected before restarting. Once successfully completed, cycle the key to save the parameters and clear Code 2024.
