Case IH 2024 (518386.13) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU / Trans): All clutches not calibrated
Issue description
The transmission controller does not have the necessary engagement and fill-time data for the transmission clutches. This is the standard default condition when a brand-new transmission controller is installed on the tractor, or it can occur if the module's memory is wiped or corrupted.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Case IH Magnum Series
- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH Steiger / Quadtrac Series
- Case IH TG Series
Check the cause
Verify if the Transmission Controller (TCU) was recently replaced, updated, or flashed, which would make this code expected.
Check transmission fluid temperature — it must be warmed up to a specific operating range (typically between 60°C / 140°F and 105°C / 221°F) for optimum calibration results.
Perform a safety check: ensure the machine is parked on a flat surface in a wide-open area, free of obstacles, people, and pets, with the parking brake engaged.
Repair steps
Warm transmission oil
Start the engine and warm the transmission oil to at least 60°C (140°F).
Access CONFIG MENU
Turn the key switch OFF, then turn it to the ON position. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the Enter key on the keypad to access the CONFIG MENU.
Select TCU
Use the down arrow key to highlight TCU in the menu list and press Enter.
Access transmission sub-menus
Navigate down to the ETC MENU screen and press Enter to access the transmission sub-menus (TRANS VIEW).
Access TRANS SETUP
Scroll down to the TRANS SETUP screen and press Enter.
Select Clutch Calibration
Select the Cltch Cal (Clutch Calibration) screen and press Enter.
Verify oil temperature
The screen will display Oil Deg, reporting the current hydraulic fluid temperature. If the temperature is within the 60–105°C range, press Enter to begin.
Initiate calibration
The system will prompt you to calibrate the clutches one by one (e.g., F1, F4, R1, etc.). Press Enter to initiate the calibration for the displayed clutch.
Wait for calibration
The transmission will automatically shift and modulate the solenoid valves to find the correct fill times. Once it finds the right calibration, it will display the calibration numbers followed by an asterisk (*).
Confirm and repeat
Press Enter to confirm, and repeat the process for the next clutch until you have cycled through all of them.
Exit menu
Once finished, the display will read Trans cal complete. Exit the menu.
Save calibration values
Crucial Step: Shut off the engine and let the system power down completely to save the new calibration values to the TCU's memory.
Parts you might need
(2)Transmission Control Module (TCU)
Required only if the module has suffered an internal memory failure.
Transmission Clutch Solenoid / Cartridge
Required only if a specific clutch fails to calibrate during the procedure due to a mechanical or electrical solenoid failure.
