Case IH 2027 – Transmission Control Module (TCU): CLUTCH C NOT CALIBRATED

Issue description

The transmission control system lacks the necessary calibration data (such as clutch filling time and engagement pressure parameters) for the 'C' clutch pack. Without this calibration, the clutch cannot transmit the required torque smoothly, which can lead to shifting issues or transmission faults.

Applies to these machines

  • Farmall
  • MX series
  • TG series
  • Maxxum series
  • Puma series
  • Farmall Pro EP series

Check the cause

  1. Transmission Oil Temperature: Must be above 10°C (Fault U19 will trigger if the oil is too cold).

  2. Engine RPM: Must be within the specified idle range (Faults U21 or U22 will trigger if RPM is too low or too high).

  3. Shuttle Lever: Must be in the neutral position (Fault U23).

  4. Clutch Pedal: Must be fully released (Fault U26).

  5. Vehicle Speed: The tractor must be completely stationary (Fault U31 triggers if output speed is sensed).

  6. Safety Switches: The handbrake must be applied (Fault U33) and the operator seat switch must be activated by sitting in the seat (Fault U34).

  7. Electrical/Hydraulic Integrity: Verify there are no underlying mechanical, valve, or hydraulic problems preventing the clutch from transmitting torque.

  8. Check the Clutch C solenoid (designated as component C026) and its wiring for open or short circuits.

Repair steps

  1. Warm up tractor

Warm up the tractor until the transmission fluid reaches normal operating temperature.

  2. Prepare for calibration

Park on a level surface, apply the handbrake, sit in the operator's seat, and place the shuttle lever in neutral.

  3. Enter calibration mode

Enter the transmission calibration mode via the tractor's display/keypad (often initiated by pressing the 'dimming' button until 'Cal' is shown, or using the 'h' and 'm' buttons).

  4. Navigate menu

Navigate to the clutch calibrations menu, which is often labeled 'H2 VIEW CLUTCH CALIBRATIONS'.

  5. Select Clutch C

The display will show the clutches sequentially, starting with Clutch A. Press and hold the upshift button to progress through the menu until you reach Clutch C.

  6. Initiate calibration

Initiate the calibration for Clutch C. Note that during the Clutch C (and D) calibration, the system will also automatically calibrate the high range synchroniser.

  7. Calibrate positions

Hold the required button (e.g., the 'm' button) to calibrate the released and applied positions as prompted by the display.

  8. Address calibration failure

If the calibration fails, the display will show an error code such as U36 (Maximum allowed clutch calibration value exceeded) or U37 (Engine RPM dropped too soon during calibration). This indicates a physical failure in the clutch pack, seals, or solenoid that requires mechanical repair.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Clutch C Rigid Tube

Fitment: Case IH Puma and similar models

  • Clutch C Solenoid Valve

Electrical component C026; controls the hydraulic flow and filling time to Clutch C

  • Clutch Friction Discs

Clutch C typically utilizes 9 friction discs depending on the exact transmission model, such as in the Farmall Pro EP series
