Case IH 2029 (517967.13) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Clutch B not calibrated

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the transmission controller has detected that the calibration values for 'Clutch B' are missing, invalid, or out of tolerance. This condition disables the transmission or results in poor clutch performance.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Maxxum / MXM Series (MXM 120, 130, 140, 155, 175, 190)
  • Puma Series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225)
  • Magnum Series
  • Steiger Series
  • Farmall Pro EP Series (95U, 105U, 115U)

Check the cause

  1. Ensure the transmission oil temperature is at operating temperature (must be above 10°C or 20°C depending on the specific model).

  2. Ensure the engine RPM is within the specified calibration range (not too high or too low).

  3. Verify operator controls are set correctly for calibration: shuttle lever in neutral, clutch pedal fully released, handbrake applied, and seat switch activated.

  4. Check for other active fault codes related to the Clutch B solenoid (e.g., open circuit, short to ground, or pressure not plausible). Calibration cannot be completed if a solenoid fault exists.

Repair steps

  1. Warm up tractor

Warm up the tractor until the transmission fluid reaches the required operating temperature.

  2. Enter calibration mode

Enter the transmission calibration mode (often accessed via the H-Menu on the instrument cluster or display).

  3. Follow prompts

Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the clutches. The display will typically cycle through the clutches (A, B, C, D, E).

  4. Calibrate Clutch B

When the display shows 'b', indicating Clutch B is ready, press and hold the designated calibration switch (often the downshift button).

  5. Hold calibration switch

Hold the button until the engine speed decreases by a specified amount (usually 50 RPM) and the calibration number on the display stops increasing.

  6. Calibrate remaining clutches

Release the button and proceed to calibrate the remaining clutches and synchronizers as prompted by the display.

  7. Store calibration values

Once all calibrations are complete (the display may show 'F' or 'CF'), turn the key start switch OFF for at least 2 seconds to store the new calibration values in the TCU memory.

  8. Check for hardware faults

If the calibration fails repeatedly, the processor may be faulty, or there is a mechanical/hydraulic fault with the Clutch B solenoid valve.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Transmission Control Module (TCU) / Processor

Replace if the processor fails to hold memory or complete calibration

  • Clutch B Solenoid Valve

Replace if there is a faulty electrical circuit or hydraulic failure preventing clutch engagement
