2033 (123.16) - DEC

Case IH 2033 (123.16) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Pressure on Clutch A would not decrease

Issue description

Occurs when the transmission controller commands the Clutch A solenoid to release (drop hydraulic pressure), but the pressure sensor continues to report a high pressure value. This means the system is either experiencing a mechanical hydraulic issue (pressure is actually trapped) or an electrical sensor issue (the sensor is falsely reporting high pressure).

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Maxxum 5120
  • Maxxum 5130
  • Maxxum 5140
  • Maxxum 5150
  • Maxxum 5220
  • Maxxum 5230
  • Maxxum 5240
  • Maxxum 5250
  • Puma
  • Magnum
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Check transmission fluid level and condition, as erratic pressure readings can stem from fluid issues

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Clutch A pressure sensor for disconnected wires, corrosion, or a short to +12V (which causes false high readings)

  3. Test the Clutch A solenoid valve to ensure it is not mechanically stuck open or shorted, which would physically prevent pressure from decreasing

  4. Access the tractor's 'H' diagnostic menu or AFS Pro display to view freeze-frame data and verify if the code is active or stored

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Access the transmission valve body. This typically requires removing a small access panel to reach the sensor location on the transmission case.

  3. Removal

Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the Clutch A pressure sensor. Unscrew the old sensor from the transmission block.

  4. Installation

Apply a dab of hydraulic thread sealant to the threads of the new sensor (if not pre-applied). Thread the new sensor into the port and tighten to OEM specifications.

  5. Reconnection

Plug the factory wiring harness back into the new sensor.

  6. Calibration and Clearing

Start the tractor and access the 'H' diagnostic menu to clear the stored 2033 fault code. Note: After replacing transmission clutch components or sensors, a transmission clutch calibration procedure may be required.
