Case IH 2035 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / Transmission Controller: Dump Solenoid - Short to Ground or High Voltage
Issue description
Fault code 2035 indicates an electrical circuit fault where the transmission dump solenoid is experiencing a "short to ground" or a "short to high voltage" (short to 12V). The dump solenoid is responsible for disengaging drive between the engine and the transmission when the clutch pedal is depressed. When this circuit shorts, the controller cannot properly regulate the solenoid, which can result in a loss of transmission pressure, harsh shifting, or a complete loss of drive.

Check the cause
Check for Related Codes: Verify if other codes are present. Code 2036 (Dump solenoid open circuit) or 2505 (Clutch A pressure not plausible) often accompany this issue and can help narrow down if the issue is a hard short or an intermittent connection.
Inspect Connectors: Locate the dump solenoid connector (identified in some manuals as connector X-527) on the transmission control valve block. Check for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.
Harness Testing: Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to test the wiring harness between the transmission controller and the solenoid. Test for continuity to ground (to confirm a short to ground) and test for voltage with the key on (to confirm a short to 12V).
Solenoid Coil Test: Measure the resistance across the pins of the dump solenoid itself. If the resistance is near zero, the solenoid coil is internally shorted and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Park the tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate the transmission control valve assembly
Locate the transmission control valve assembly on the side of the transmission housing.
Disconnect the electrical harness
Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty dump solenoid.
Repair or replace
If the wiring harness was found to be shorted during diagnostics, repair the chafed or melted wire in the harness. If the harness is intact, proceed to replace the solenoid.
Remove the retaining bolts
Remove the retaining bolts holding the dump solenoid to the valve block.
Extract the old solenoid
Extract the old solenoid. Ensure no old O-rings are left stuck inside the valve block bore.
Lubricate new components
Coat the new solenoid components and O-rings with clean transmission oil (Case IH Akcela Nexplore fluid is recommended by OEM manuals) prior to assembly.
Insert the new dump solenoid
Insert the new dump solenoid and tighten the retaining bolts to the OEM torque specification (typically 27 Nm).
Reconnect the electrical connector
Reconnect the electrical connector.
Clear fault codes
Power on the tractor and clear the fault codes from the transmission controller.
Recalibrate the Transmission
Because the dump solenoid controls clutch engagement, you must perform a transmission clutch calibration / quickfill adjustment. With the shuttle and range levers in neutral, use the upshift/downshift switches in the cab to select the clutches (e.g., C1, C2) and adjust the quickfill settings to ensure smooth engagement without harsh tractor movement.
