Case IH 2036 (518375.05) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / PS ECM: Dump solenoid open circuit

The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit (infinite resistance) or a short to ground in the wiring harness or the internal coil of the transmission's neutral dump solenoid. When this occurs, the solenoid cannot actuate, which can result in a loss of hydraulic pressure to the clutches or an inability to engage forward/reverse gears.

   Inspect the Transmission Side Harness and check the connector between the PS ECM Harness and the PS Transmission Side Harness (usually located at the firewall) to ensure it is not disconnected or loose.

   Inspect the specific 2-pin electrical connector at the Dump Solenoid on the transmission control valve block. Look for pinched wires, loose pins, or corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to perform a continuity test on the wiring harness from the ECM to the solenoid, checking for an open circuit or a short to ground.

   Unplug the dump solenoid and measure the resistance across its two pins. If the multimeter reads infinite resistance (OL), the internal coil is open and the solenoid cartridge must be replaced.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn the engine off, and remove the key.

   Clean the exterior area around the transmission control valve assembly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the dump solenoid.

   Remove the retaining bolt(s) securing the dump solenoid to the transmission control valve block.

   Carefully pull the old solenoid cartridge out of the valve body.

   Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of transmission fluid will leak out.

   Coat the O-rings and the valve components of the new dump solenoid with clean transmission oil.

   Case IH AKCELA NEXPLORE™ fluid is recommended by the OEM.

   Insert the new solenoid cartridge into the valve block.

   Install the retaining bolt and torque it to the OEM specification.

   Typically 27 Nm / 20 lb-ft for the control valve assembly.

   Reconnect the electrical connector.

    Top off the transmission fluid if necessary, start the tractor, and clear the fault codes from the PS ECM.

    Test the forward/reverse shuttle to ensure the code does not return.
