Case IH 2037 - UCM – Transmission Controller: Bottom of Clutch pedal switch open circuit or bottom of clutch relay is stuck open.

Issue description

The controller is not receiving the expected electrical signal from the clutch pedal switch when the pedal is fully depressed (bottom of clutch), or the relay responsible for routing this signal is physically/electrically stuck in the open position.

Check the cause

  1. Check Switch Adjustment: Verify that the clutch pedal switch is not simply misadjusted or loose (a misadjusted switch often triggers a related code, 2047, but can contribute to open circuit readings if it fails to actuate).

  2. Inspect the Harness: Check the wiring harness connecting the clutch pedal switch, the bottom of clutch relay, and the transmission controller for physical damage, corrosion, or disconnected plugs.

  3. Test for Continuity: Use a multimeter to check for an open circuit or a short-to-ground condition in the switch wiring.

  4. Test the Relay: Locate the 'Bottom of Clutch' relay in the fuse/relay panel and test if it is stuck open.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Switch and Relay

    Locate the clutch pedal switch (usually mounted on the clutch pedal assembly linkage) and the Bottom of Clutch relay (located in the cab fuse/relay panel).

  2. Verify Electrical Connections

    Disconnect the harness at the switch. Inspect the pins for pushed-out terminals or corrosion. Reconnect securely.

  3. Test the Switch

    With the harness disconnected, probe the switch with a multimeter set to ohms/continuity. Manually depress the clutch pedal to the bottom of its travel. If the switch does not close the circuit (infinite resistance/no continuity), the switch has failed internally and must be replaced.

  4. Test/Swap the Relay

    If the switch tests good, swap the Bottom of Clutch relay with a known good relay of the same type from the fuse panel. If the code clears and the tractor operates normally, replace the faulty relay.

  5. Repair the Harness

    If both the switch and relay are functional, trace the wiring back to the Transmission Controller. Repair any broken wires causing the open circuit.

  6. Controller Verification

    If there is perfect continuity between the switch, relay, and the transmission controller, but the code persists, the transmission controller itself has likely failed and will need to be replaced or reprogrammed by a dealer.
