Case IH 2041 – Transmission Control Module (TCU) / DR Module / DS Module: Open circuit in the transmission solenoid system
Issue description
The transmission controller is sending a signal to the Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) valve, but it detects no current flow. This means the electrical circuit is broken, which could be caused by a severed wire, a disconnected plug, or a burned-out solenoid coil.

Check the cause
Perform an open-circuit voltage test on the battery to ensure no surface charge issues or low voltage drops are causing module faults.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission control valve block for rubbed-through wires, rodent damage, or disconnected plugs at the Low Range / C4 PWM valve.
Disconnect the harness at the PWM valve and check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture inside the connector.
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the PWM solenoid valve. An 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance reading confirms the internal coil is broken.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent short circuits during repair.
Locate the Valve
Locate the transmission control valve block (usually mounted on the side of the transmission housing) and identify the specific Low Range / C4 PWM solenoid.
Replace or Repair
If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, unbolt and replace the PWM solenoid valve. If the valve tested good, trace the wiring back to the DR/DS Transmission Module and repair the broken wire in the harness.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery and clear the fault codes. The fault condition must be corrected before the tractor will allow you to proceed to calibration.
Transmission Calibration
Enter the H3 Menu / DR Module configuration screen. You must recalibrate the transmission clutches. The module needs to determine the new current required to turn the input/output shafts at the required speed and adjust the 'quickfill' settings for the new valve.
