Case IH 2045 – Transmission Control Module (TCM) or Chassis Control Module (CCM): Clutch 1 solenoid - open circuit

The controller is sending a signal to the Clutch 1 (C1) Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) solenoid valve, but it is not detecting the expected electrical current returning, indicating a break in the circuit, a disconnected plug, or a failed solenoid coil.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the C1 solenoid for chafing, rodent damage, or pinched wires.

   Disconnect the C1 solenoid harness and check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture inside the connector.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the C1 solenoid coil using a multimeter (an infinite/OL reading indicates a broken internal coil).

   Disconnect the harness at the TCM/CCM and at the C1 solenoid, then check for continuity on the signal and ground wires.

   Check for continuity between the solenoid power wire and the tractor chassis to test for a short to ground.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

   Locate the Valve Block

   Locate the transmission side cover assembly where the C1, C2, C3, and C4 PWM solenoids are housed.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the control valve assembly to prevent dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic circuit.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the C1 PWM solenoid. Depending on the exact manifold design, remove the retaining pins or retaining bolts holding the solenoid in place. Carefully pull the C1 solenoid and valve assembly out of the manifold.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Coat the new valve components and O-rings with clean transmission oil (e.g., Case IH Akcela Nexplore) prior to assembly. Insert the new C1 solenoid into the manifold block. Install the retaining bolts and torque them to OEM specifications (typically around 27 Nm / 20 lb-ft for standard retaining bolts).

   Reassembly & Calibration

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu. Perform a transmission clutch calibration (Quickfill adjustment) so the TCM can learn the engagement characteristics of the new C1 solenoid.
