Case IH 2055 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): No signal from wheel speed sensor
Issue description
The controller is not receiving speed data from the wheel speed sensor. Without this critical wheel speed data, the transmission cannot function correctly and will typically refuse to engage or operate properly.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Magnum
- Maxxum
- Steiger T4B
- Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- MX
- TG
- Puma
Check the cause
Inspect the wheel speed sensor connector for corrosion from dust and moisture.
Trace the wiring harness from the sensor back to the transmission controller, looking for chafing, breaks, or shorts to ground (especially on machines exceeding 5,000 operating hours).
Repair steps
Locate the Sensor
Identify the wheel speed sensor on the transmission housing or wheel motor assembly.
Disconnect and Inspect
Unplug the sensor harness. Check both sides of the connector for moisture, dirt, or corroded pins. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.
Test the Harness
If no visible damage is found, verify the continuity of the wiring harness between the sensor connector and the Transmission Controller (TRANS) to rule out an open or shorted circuit.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring and connectors are intact and functioning, the sensor itself has failed internally. Remove the mounting bolt(s), pull out the old sensor, and install the replacement.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the wiring harness, clear the stored 2055 fault code from the system, and test the machine to ensure the transmission engages and the code does not return.
