2058

Case IH 2058 – Transmission Controller / Vehicle Control Module (SPS): Seat switch closed for 25 hours.

Issue description

This is a safety interlock code. It triggers when the system detects that the operator presence seat switch has remained in the "closed" (occupied) position continuously for 25 hours. This usually means the safety switch has been manually bypassed, is physically stuck, or there is a short circuit in the wiring harness.

Applies to these machines

  • Maxxum
  • Steiger
  • Puma
  • Magnum
  • Farmall
  • MX/TG series
  • T6
  • T7
  • T6000
  • T7000
  • TM series

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection for Bypasses: Check the operator seat to ensure no heavy objects (like toolboxes) have been left on the seat. Verify that the operator has not intentionally bypassed the switch by jumpering the connector pins or tying the switch down.

  2. Physical Switch Check: Press and release the seat cushion to feel/listen for the mechanical click of the switch to ensure it isn't physically jammed by dirt or debris.

  3. Multimeter Continuity Test: Disconnect the seat switch from the wiring harness. Use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. The circuit should be open when the seat is empty and closed when weight is applied. If it reads closed while empty, the switch has failed internally.

  4. Harness Short Check: If the switch tests fine, check the tractor-side wiring harness for a short-to-ground or short-to-power that is falsely sending a "closed" signal to the transmission controller.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and allow the modules to power down.

  2. Access the Switch

Tilt the seat forward or remove the bottom seat cushion (depending on the specific Grammer or Sears seat model installed) to access the operator presence switch and its wiring pigtail.

  3. Disconnect and Remove

Unplug the electrical connector. Unbolt or unclip the faulty seat switch from the seat suspension base.

  4. Install the New Switch

Snap or bolt the replacement switch into the seat base bracket.

  5. Reconnect and Route Wiring

Plug the electrical connector back in. Ensure the wiring harness is routed cleanly and zip-tied so it will not get pinched by the seat's air suspension travel.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Turn the key on. Sit in the seat, start the tractor, and verify that the transmission shuttle engages properly in Forward and Reverse. Stand up (safely, with the parking brake on) to ensure the safety interlock disengages the transmission as designed. Clear the stored 2058 code using the tractor's diagnostic menu or a CAN-bus scan tool.
