Case IH 2065 – Transmission Control Module (TCU) / Transmission Sub-system: Forward synchroniser solenoid - open circuit

Issue description

The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit controlling the forward synchroniser solenoid (Y22). An open circuit typically means there is infinite resistance, which is usually caused by a disconnected electrical plug, a severed wire in the harness, or a burned-out (failed) internal solenoid coil.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the Forward Synchroniser Solenoid (Y22) on the transmission valve block for a disconnected plug, corrosion, or pushed-out pins

  2. Perform a coil resistance test by unplugging the connector and measuring resistance across the solenoid's pins (infinite resistance/OL indicates a broken internal coil)

  3. Test the wiring harness for continuity back to the transmission controller to check for chafed or broken wires

  4. Verify the ignition-on live line is supplying power to the transmission circuit and check relevant fuses (e.g., fuse F3)

Repair steps

  1. Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing.

  3. Identify the Forward Synchroniser Solenoid (Y22). Clean the area around the valve casing to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  4. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the solenoid.

  5. Remove the retaining fastener or snap ring holding the solenoid to the valve block.

  6. Carefully pull the faulty solenoid cartridge out of the valve body. Have a catch pan ready for a small amount of hydraulic oil loss.

  7. Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission hydraulic fluid and insert it into the valve block.

  8. Secure the solenoid with the retaining fastener and reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Turn the ignition on and clear the fault codes from the transmission controller.

  10. Warm the transmission oil to at least 60°C. Enter the H3 menu (or equivalent calibration mode for your model) and perform the transmission quick-fill adjustment for the clutches (C1/C2). Shift the shuttle lever to forward and slowly release the clutch pedal to test the quick-fill setting; adjust between 30 to 90 ms as needed so that tractor movement is smooth and responsive.
