Case IH 2067 (741.15) - DEC – DEC: Forward solenoid circuit fault / Clutch FWD Solenoid - short to high voltage

Issue description

The controller has detected an electrical anomaly in the circuit responsible for engaging the forward drive clutch. A short to high voltage (+12 Volts) indicates the circuit is receiving voltage when it shouldn't be, typically caused by a wiring harness shorting to a power source, a failed solenoid coil, or an internal failure within the controller.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the forward solenoid for rubbed wires, corrosion, or melted insulation that could cause a short to a 12V source.

  2. Disconnect the forward solenoid and measure the resistance across the coil pins (expected: 8 to 9 ohms). If lower or open, the coil is bad.

  3. Check the voltage at the harness connector when the forward gear is commanded (expected: 10.8V to 12V). If voltage is present constantly, look for a short in the harness or a failed relay/switch.

  4. Swap the forward solenoid coil with the reverse solenoid coil. If the fault code changes to the reverse circuit (code 2068), the solenoid is faulty.

  5. Ensure the solenoid cartridge is not overtightened, which can swedge the solenoid down and bind the internal spool.

Repair steps

  1. Locate shuttle valve assembly

    Find the shuttle valve assembly on the outside of the transmission housing, often behind the seat or just ahead of the remote hydraulic couplers.

  2. Identify solenoids

    Locate the forward solenoid, which is generally the front-most valve on the block (the reverse solenoid is located behind it).

  3. Remove faulty solenoid

    Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the forward solenoid and remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem.

  4. Remove coil and inspect cartridge

    Slide the electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. If the cartridge itself is sticking, unscrew the cartridge from the valve block and replace it as well.

  5. Install new solenoid

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the cartridge and install the retaining nut. Torque the nut to a maximum of 9 ft-lbs. Do not overtighten, as this will distort the cartridge and cause the spool to bind.

  6. Reconnect and clear codes

    Reconnect the wiring harness. Clear the inactive fault codes using the Case IH EST diagnostic software or via the instrument cluster display.

  7. Test operation

    Start the tractor, verify forward engagement, and ensure the fault code does not return.
