Issue description

The controller has detected that the electrical circuit controlling the reverse clutch solenoid is receiving a higher voltage than expected, typically indicating a short to a +12V power source in the wiring harness or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause

  1. Swap the electrical connectors between the Forward and Reverse solenoids. If the fault code changes to the forward circuit, the reverse solenoid is faulty. If the code remains on the reverse circuit, the issue is in the wiring harness.

  2. Trace the wiring from the Transmission Controller to the reverse solenoid. Look for rubbed, pinched, or melted wires that could be causing a short to a +12V power source.

  3. Verify that the system pressure solenoid core moves freely within the solenoid valve cartridge, as a stuck valve can cause electrical spikes.

  4. Use a voltmeter to check the synchroniser potentiometer signal, ensuring the potentiometer or its connector has not been damaged or painted over.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent further electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Locate the Valve Block

    Locate the transmission control valve assembly on the side of the transmission housing.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

  4. Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)

    If the solenoid was deemed faulty, disconnect the wiring harness from the reverse solenoid. Unbolt and remove the faulty solenoid valve cartridge from the transmission valve block. Install the new solenoid and torque to OEM specifications.

  5. Reconnect and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery and use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the onboard instrumentation display to clear the inactive fault codes.

  6. Perform Transmission Calibration

    After replacing a transmission clutch solenoid, you must test and adjust the 'quickfill' settings (clutch engagement calibration). Shift the shuttle lever to neutral and select the clutch setting. Lower the quickfill setting until engagement noise can no longer be heard, then raise it until it can be clearly heard, and back it off slightly.
