Case IH 2071 – Transmission Controller (Trans / TCU): Forward switch input from the FNRP Pod is shorted to ground or is open circuit.
Issue description
The FNRP (Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park) Pod is the shuttle lever assembly used by the operator to select the tractor's direction of travel. This code triggers when the controller detects an electrical fault—either a broken connection (open circuit) or a wire touching the chassis/ground (short to ground)—preventing the system from recognizing when the operator shifts into the forward gear. As a result, the tractor will typically fail to move forward or backward.

Check the cause
Rapidly cycle the FNRP shuttle lever between Forward, Neutral, and Reverse multiple times to free up potentially stuck switch contacts.
Inspect the wiring harness connecting the FNRP pod to the transmission controller for pinched wires, chafing against the steering column, or disconnected plugs.
Use a multimeter to test the forward switch input pins on the FNRP pod connector for continuity to verify if the switch has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
Remove the Steering Wheel
On models where the FNRP pod is column-mounted, remove the center cap and unbolt the steering wheel to gain access to the column assembly.
Remove Column Covers
Take off the upper and lower steering column covers (or the specific FNRP pod covers) to expose the switch mechanism.
Disconnect Wiring
Locate and disconnect the electrical wiring harness plugged into the gear selector assembly.
Remove the Faulty Switch
Unbolt the retaining hardware holding the FNRP shuttle lever/switch assembly in place and remove it from the column.
Install the New Part
Mount the new FNRP control lever and secure it with the retaining hardware.
Reassemble
Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the connector is fully seated. Reinstall the steering column covers and the steering wheel.
Test
Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, clear the stored fault codes, and test the forward and reverse functions to ensure proper operation.
