Case IH 2073 – Transmission Controller (TRANS / TCU): Reverse switch input from the FNRP Pod is shorted to ground or open circuit

When this code is triggered, the controller detects that the voltage on the reverse switch circuit is lower than expected, meaning the circuit has lost its power supply, the wiring is broken (open circuit), or the wiring is touching the chassis (shorted to ground).

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the Transmission Controller to the FNRP Pod on the steering column or armrest for pinched wires, chafing, or packed mud that could cause a short to ground.

   Ensure the harness connectors at the FNRP Pod and the Transmission Controller are tight and free of corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to check the reverse switch circuit for continuity. Test the wire between the FNRP Pod and the Transmission Controller to verify if it is open or shorted to ground.

   If applicable to your model, swap the forward and reverse switch plugs to see if the problem follows the switch or stays with the wiring. Listen for the relay click in the dash when changing directions with the engine off and key on.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts or unintended transmission engagement during the repair.

   Access the FNRP Pod

   Remove the steering column covers or armrest console panels to access the FNRP shuttle lever assembly.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the electrical connector from the base of the shuttle lever/FNRP Pod.

   Remove the Faulty Switch/Pod

   Remove the mounting screws or retaining hardware holding the FNRP Pod or shuttle lever in place and remove the unit.

   Install the New Part

   Mount the replacement FNRP Pod or shuttle lever switch and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnect and Reassemble

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new switch. Reinstall the steering column covers or console panels.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and verify that the neutral, forward, and reverse icons display correctly on the instrument cluster when the lever is moved. Clear the fault codes and test drive the tractor.
