2082

Case IH 2082 – Transmission Control Unit (XCM or MCM - Multi-function Control Module): Clutch A safety pressure switch short circuit

Issue description

The transmission control system has detected an electrical short circuit in the wiring or internal components of the safety pressure switch responsible for monitoring the hydraulic pressure of transmission Clutch A.

Applies to these machines

  • Farmall
  • Case IH MX / TG Series
  • Case IH Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Clutch A safety pressure switch on the transmission valve block for rubbed, melted, or pinched wires shorting to the chassis or power

  2. Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test the harness for continuity to ground or a short to voltage

  3. Test the pins on the pressure switch itself to see if the internal contacts have failed and shorted together

  4. Check the transmission control fuses, as a blown fuse supplying power to the pressure switches can sometimes masquerade as or accompany switch faults

Repair steps

  1. Park and secure tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the transmission system if required by your specific model's service manual.

  3. Locate switch

Locate the Clutch A safety pressure switch on the transmission control valve block.

  4. Disconnect and clean

Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch and clean the area around the switch to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  5. Remove faulty switch

If the diagnostic checks proved the switch is internally shorted, use a wrench to carefully unscrew and remove the faulty pressure switch.

  6. Install new switch

Install the new OEM safety pressure switch and torque it to the manufacturer's specifications.

  7. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  8. Clear fault code

Turn on the ignition and use the tractor's ADIC display or a diagnostic service tool to clear the 2082 fault code.

  9. Test operation

Start the tractor and cycle the transmission through its ranges to ensure Clutch A engages properly and the code does not return.
