Case IH 2090 – CCU (Central Control Unit) or MTA CCM (Transmission Control Module): ADIC absent on CAN

Issue description

The central controller is not receiving CAN (Controller Area Network) bus communication messages from the ADIC (Analog-Digital Instrument Cluster).

Check the cause

  1. Check Power and Ground: Verify that the ADIC is receiving proper voltage. Check the instrument cluster's fuses, relays, and ground connections. Look for related fault codes (e.g., 14015 or 14016, which indicate the ADIC 5-volt reference voltage is either too low or too high).

  2. Inspect the CAN Bus Wiring: Check the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the ADIC and the CCU/TCU for continuity, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

  3. Inspect Connectors: Check the ADIC wiring harness connectors for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins (a common issue if the cab has been pressure washed).

  4. Verify ADIC Operation: Determine if the instrument cluster powers on at all. If the screen is blank and gauges are dead, the module itself may have failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Battery

    Always disconnect the battery before servicing CAN bus modules to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the ADIC

    Remove the steering column shrouds or dashboard trim panels required to access the rear of the instrument cluster.

  3. Clean and Re-seat Connectors

    Disconnect the ADIC harness. Clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and firmly re-seat the connector. Reconnect the battery and test if code 2090 clears.

  4. Repair Wiring

    If continuity tests reveal a break in the CAN lines or power supply lines, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness.

  5. Replace or Rebuild the ADIC

    If the wiring is intact and power/ground are verified but the ADIC still fails to communicate, the cluster must be replaced or sent to a specialist for board-level repair (companies like Breizelec or Diagcar Electronics service these specific boards).

  6. Configuration/Calibration

    If installing a new ADIC, it must be configured for the specific tractor. For example, on Maxxum models, a new ADIC comes configured for a 12x12 mechanical transmission by default. If fitted to a 16x16 or 24x24 transmission without being reconfigured via the dealer service tool or keypad sequence, it will cause additional speed sensor and CAN errors.
